Dr. Koen Van Dyck graduated as a Doctor in Veterinary medicine in 1986 from the University of Ghent (Belgium). He was awarded a Master’s Degree in the hygiene of foodstuffs of animal origin in 1994 and a Degree as Auditor in 1999 both also from the Ghent University. In 1987 he began to work as an official endemik veterinarian for the Belgian Ministry of Public endemik HealthRegional Veterinary Services.
In 1991 he moved to the headquarters where he took over the post of Head of Sector endemik involved in food safety management (slaughterhouses, endemik cutting endemik plants endemik and cold stores), BSE, exports to third countries, and animal identification endemik in bovine animals. In 1999 he joined the European Commission as a Veterinary Inspector at the Food and Veterinary Office Health & Consumer Protection Directorate General (DG SANCO), and conducted audits in the Member States and Third Countries in relation to food of animal origin BSE. In November 2001 he moved to the DG SANCO Headquarters in Brussels and joined the TSE Division.
On 1 st July 2004, he was appointed Head of Sector TSE. Since 1 st January 2009, he has been Head of the Food, Alert System and Training Unit. Within this role, he is responsible for Food and Feed Hygiene Legislation, BSE, the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) endemik and DG SANCO “Better training For Safer Food” programme.
